University exchanges and bilateral agreements

Exchange programmes between universities and between countries: study a semester or a year abroad, often without paying tuition at the host university.

University exchanges and bilateral agreements

Ask your own university first

Most exchanges rest on a bilateral agreement signed between two universities. Only students of the signing universities can go, and the application is made at your international relations office, not at the host university.

Tuition stays at home

In an exchange you remain enrolled at your university and pay its fees only. The host university does not charge tuition and your courses abroad count towards your degree.

Country-to-country agreements

Some governments sign agreements that open places or grants to each other's students, such as Brazil's PEC-G or the Franco-Maghreb research partnerships.

Erasmus+ · Study mobility in Europe

Spend 2 to 12 months at a partner university in another programme country. You pay no tuition at the host university, your credits count towards your degree and you receive a monthly Erasmus grant. Apply through your own university's international office. The United Kingdom and Switzerland are due to rejoin from 2027.
